Marie-Sylvie: I was born in Switzerland and for as long as I can remember, my fingers have never stopped moving, I have always been making things. I have travelled widely and lived for years in Zimbabwe where I became very much interested in the manufacture and production of metal birds, made out of old oil drums. On returning to Switzerland, I set up a business importing these birds for sale in the Swiss and local French markets. This work was in parallel with my real love of making and selling miniature houses to order. The main market was Switzerland but I also had commissions from the USA and Southern Africa. I also started decorating lanterns with winter snow scenes and chalets which were particularly popular in the exhibitions that I held. I moved to Chichester in July 2021, to join my husband Mike, in Windmill Farmhouse. Since arriving here, I have been making much more modest products and we finally decided to exhibit our work, so set up a small exhibition space.
Mike: I am English but have spent more than half my life abroad, mainly in Switzerland. I started painting in 2005 focusing on water-colour for the first few years and then moving gradually into oil painting, ultimately using the two media in parallel. I was fascinated by waves and concentrated a lot of my time trying to paint them. Water, the countryside, birds, portraits and copies of old paintings also interested me. My painting has generally been for me but with the occasional exhibitions, many have been sold.
